The findings of the Carlson Wagonlit Travel (CWT) global business travel survey conducted last year reveal that security queues and flight delays are the most negative factors of business travel. Additionally, it also showed that the majority of business travellers are against permitting the in-flight use of mobile phones.
Pet annoyances
The survey, which randomly sampled the opinions of 2,100 business travellers and 650 travel managers in 12 countries (France, Germany, Italy, Spain, UK, Australia, China, India, Japan, Brazil, Canada and USA), found that the top priority for travel managers, regardless of their nationality, was to find ways of streamlining programmes to cut costs. As to annoyances, apart from security queues, flight delays and loss of personal time, fellow travellers failing to check in their luggage when they should (18%), crying babies (17%), and those travellers who stow their luggage far forward from their seat (14%) were the most common of all.
Online bookings and leisure activities
All those taking part in the survey agreed that online booking would increase during the next five years, with the Latin Americans (90%) and Europeans (87%) being the most optimistic. Lastly, 58% of business travellers extend their business trip to include leisure or holiday time and 47% acknowledged that they occasionally or frequently invite family or friends to join them for that part of the trip.
