The first edition of the Tourism Innovation Summit has had a wide representation of political leaders, who have participated in numerous sessions during the three days. TIS2020 has brought together the European administration, national, regional and local leaders and experts from the tourism industry to promote ways of cooperation and agreements for the development and reactivation of a key industry for the world economy. The event was attended by Her Majesty the Queen, who presided over the opening ceremony.
Safety and health prevention
Throughout the event, safety and health prevention were present from the very door of the congress. The TIS2020 carried out a total of 1,263 antigen tests on the attendees, of which 800 were performed in Fibes, the venue that has hosted the congress, and just over 400 in origin.
"We have committed ourselves to being the example that the reactivation of the tourism sector is possible with the performance of tests of this type, both at origin and at destination, a measure that the sector is calling for in order to return to activity as soon as possible", said Silvia Avilés, Director of TIS - Tourism Innovation Summit.
Avilés also thanked the Seville City Council for their collaboration and efforts in holding TIS in the city, and the Andalusian Regional Government, who "have committed themselves to this international summit to reactivate tourism".
Cooperation between the public and private sectors
In his intervention at the Closing Ceremony of this first edition of TIS, Manuel Alejandro Cardenete, Vice President of Tourism, Regeneration, Justice and Local Administration of the Andalusian Regional Government, pointed out that the congress "has been a clear example that once again demonstrates Andalusia's capacity to hold an international congress, even in the midst of a pandemic, with all the guarantees of health and safety".
"This forum has also made clear the need for cooperation and commitment from the public administration and businesses in order to recover travellers' confidence and advance a sustainable tourism model", added Cardenete.
For his part, Juan Espadas, Mayor of Seville, stressed that "this first edition of the TIS is just the beginning. Because the TIS is already a great city project," said the Mayor, who considered that this congress was precisely what the tourism industry needed to regain confidence. "And we have shown the world that, with health safety measures, it is possible," he added.
