The aim of the space is to carry out cultural activities and hold various congresses, conventions, events and other activities that will enhance the wealth and image of San Sebastian

The Kursaal Centre has taken on the management of Palacio Miramar, with the aim of carrying out cultural activities and holding various congresses, conventions, events and other activities that will enhance the wealth and image of San Sebastian and Gipuzkoa, as well as that of the Basque Country, generating activity that will attract people and that will provide added value to the environment, both economically and in terms of knowledge.

The signing of the agreement between the Kursaal Centre and the Palacio Miramar-Miramar Consortium was attended by the Regional Minister of Culture and Linguistic Policy and spokesperson for the Basque Government and President of the Palacio Miramar Consortium, Bingen Zupiria; the Deputy General of Gipuzkoa and President of the Kursaal Centre, Markel Olano; the Mayor of Donostia-San Sebastián and Vice-President of the Kursaal Centre, Eneko Goia; and the Managing Director of the Kursaal Centre, Iker Goikoetxea.

The Minister of Culture and Linguistic Policy and spokesperson for the Basque Government, Bingen Zupiria, stressed the importance of this agreement.

"The Basque Government, the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa and the City Council of Donostia/San Sebastián have agreed to give new impetus to the Palacio Miramar. From now on, this emblematic building will have a proven and successful management such as that of the Kursaal; furthermore, Donostia will gain a new space for culture, for knowledge and for holding events, congresses and meetings", he stated.

Diverse cultural and social activity

Palacio Miramar, which has hosted a variety of cultural and social activities for decades and is the well-known venue for the UPV, Eusko Ikaskuntza or Jakiunde summer courses, was also the location of Musikene until 2016. Following the move of the Basque Country's Higher Music Centre to its new building in Ibaeta, an opportunity has arisen to develop new, highly interesting activities that will enrich the area.

Iker Goikoetxea, Managing Director of the Kursaal, highlighted the "great historical value" of the Miramar Palace and its "unbeatable location in the city". "This gives it great potential as a tractor for events and the fact that Kursaal has taken over this space gives Donostia, Gipuzkoa and the Basque Country a fantastic opportunity to strengthen our position in the coveted field of conferences and conventions".
