An exceptional change of dates that will allow to preserve the high international impact of this great world-wide appointment of the tourism industry, at a time when the fair has a critical role for the recovery of tourism

Madrid, 19 October 2021. The next edition of the International Tourism Trade Fair, FITUR 2021, will be held from 19 to 23 May next year, as agreed by IFEMA and the FITUR Organising Committee, following a well-considered decision which, exceptionally, makes this event essential for the recovery of the tourism business, on dates that will allow it to preserve its high international impact and thus favour the professional re-encounter of companies, countries and destinations and the much-needed boost to world tourism activity.

The meeting of the FITUR Organizing Committee, headed by the President of IBERIA, Javier Sánchez Prieto, also featured the participation of the Secretary of State for Tourism, Fernando Valdés; the Secretary General of the UNWTO, Zurab Pololikashvili; the President of the Spanish Confederation of Hotels and Tourist Accommodation, CEHAT, Jorge Marichal; the President of the Spanish Confederation of Travel Agencies, CEAV, Carlos Garrido, and the President of the Tourism Board, Juan Molas, among others.

For its part, IFEMA is focusing all its efforts on presenting an edition designed to contribute to the recovery of tourism at a time when FITUR's dynamic role is critical and decisive. To this end, it is particularly important to focus on optimising its capacity to attract visitors, as well as enriching its specialised content and new business niches, and on promoting areas of knowledge which will help to relaunch tourism activity, both nationally and internationally, as one of the world's major engines of economic growth, especially in Spain, where the tourism sector is the most important in terms of both GDP and employment.

FITUR has the unanimous support of the Spanish tourism industry and is currently the second most important fair in the world and the first in terms of its impact on the Latin American sphere. Each edition brings together more than 11,000 companies from 165 countries, as well as official representatives from a large part of the world's nations.

It is also the largest event in Spain in terms of the tourism business, with more than 250,000 attendees from all over the world, as well as in terms of innovation and promotion of new tourism segments, technological leadership in tourism management, and knowledge transfer tools.

Its high representation is also recognized through the support of the World Tourism Organization, UNWTO, based in Madrid; a link that is also materialized in the Board of Directors of UNWTO Affiliate Members that currently chairs IFEMA/FITUR.

Its annual call represents an economic impact of 330 million euros, with the consequent direct impact on the recovery of tourism activity and the revitalization of the sectors linked to tourism in Madrid.
