On 9 April 2008, TUI Spain’s corporate event division Ultramar Express Event Management announced that it will be taking over First Choice Meetings & Incentives’ MICE business in Spain. This move stems from the merger of TUI AG’s tourist division and First Choice Holidays PLC last September, resulting in the creation of TUI Travel PLC, one of the global tourist industry’s leading companies, operating in approximately 180 countries and with over 30 million clients worldwide.
BY this merger, Ultramar Express Event Management has become one the top MICE industry players in Spain, with a turnover of more than 36 million euros en 2007, over 100 employees, and offices in the country’s main tourist destinations. The company organises 50 trade shows and congresses a year on average, and thanks to its status as official inbound travel agent for Barcelona’s Fira, attends to the needs of approximately 500,000 trade professional visiting Spain.
