Ultramar Express Event Management and Salou Tourist Board Promote Town as Business Tourism Destination

Last week, Ultramar Express Event Management, TUI Spains’s MICE division, signed a collaboration agreement with the Salou Tourist Board with the aim of promoting the town as a MICE destination. Delfi Torns, managing director of Ultramar Express Event Management, and Marc Montagut, president of the Salou Tourist Board, formalized the agreement by virtue of which Express Event Management will begin to promote Salou as one of its Convention Express destinations.

This agreement has been signed within the framework of “Convention Express”, a product recently launched by Ultramar Express Event Management, which involves offering clients closer and less popular destinations to reduce transport, accommodation and venue costs, and to save time. Salou meets all the requirements to become a Convention Express destination, since it has a fully equipped convention centre, a large number of hotel rooms, and is easily accessible from the airports of Barcelona and Reus, and the high-speed train station at Tarragona.

Likewise, the Salou Tourist Board sets great store by this agreement, which will help position the town as a MICE destination, in addition to its current popularity as a holiday resort town. As business tourism is less seasonal, it will help generate income for the town during the whole year, complementing conventional tourism.

It is important to note that this agreement, and the possibility of signing similar ones with other destinations, has generated interest among MICE industry service providers. Hotels, restaurants, convention centres, leisure attractions, event staff agencies, etc., see this agreement as an excellent opportunity to encourage companies to hold their events despite the economic crisis.

Ultramar Express Event Management is currently negotiating similar agreements with a large number of tourist boards. Convention express has raised great expectations among destinations, service providers and clients.
