The Balearic Cross Golf Weekend was held in Palma de Mallorca from 8-10 April.

Ultramar Event Management – TUI Travel PLC's Spanish MICE division – successfully organized and managed the technical secretariat and operational logistics of the 1st edition of the Balearic Cross Golf Weekend, the first cross golf tournament to be held in Spain.

Held from 8-10 April in Palma de Mallorca, the tournament, which attracted more than 45 players and over 150 spectators, is the first of its kind to be promoted by the Balearic Cross Golf Club. The club was created by Ultramar Event Management and Sportstainment, a company specializing in the creation and organization of new golf concepts, with the aim of giving a boost to the islands' leisure industry with dynamic initiatives, and positioning the Balearic Islands as a leading and creative tourist destination.

Ultramar Event Management collaborated with Palma de Mallorca City Council to integrate the event into the city and to avoid inconveniencing passersby. Furthermore, the tournament's fundraising strategy was a complete success, increasing the event's budget thanks to the sponsorship of a number of brands.

For the 1st edition of the Crossover Golf Tournament in Spain, a fun and peculiar course was designed, combining holes affording views of Palma Cathedral and the beach. A total of six holes were played on Can Pere Antoni Beach (the city's beach) and five in Parc de la Mar, a park facing Palma Cathedral.

The welcome pack given to each participant contained, in addition to the programme, balls specially designed for playing cross golf (balls that float and weigh less than conventional ones to avoid accidental injuries). The pack also included an artificial grass mat which the participants used to play on sand and in public areas, so as not to damage the pavement.

Assembling the facilities for the event was another of the challenges that the company successfully met, since the assembly and dismantling of two separate public spaces (each measuring between 500-1,500sqm) was managed efficiently.

Cross golf, which has become enormously popular over the last few years, is a golfing modality that is played on unconventional courses. All known as "urban golf," this new concept combines holes in emblematic districts with those in less frequented neighbourhoods, while always respecting the environment.
