With the support of the General Sports Council of the Spanish government and the General Sports Secretariat of the Catalonian regional government, the 1st edition of the Senior Sports Meeting is scheduled to be held next October in Lloret del Mar.
Ultramar Event Management (UEM), TUI Travel PLC's Spanish MICE division, has been commissioned to manage the technical secretariat and logistics for the 1st edition of the Senior Sports Meeting, a multi-sport championship for people aged over 40, which is scheduled to be held in Lloret de Mar from 10-14 October 2011. The operation will involve a large number of Ultramar Event Management's staff, all of whom have proven experience in organizing important sporting events.
Ultramar Event Management and Senior Events, the organizer of the event, signed a five-year collaboration agreement on 28 March during the public presentation of the event. At the first edition, some 1,000 participants are expected, with the aim of reaching 15,000 in future editions. The organizers chose this locality on the Costa Brava due to the willingness of Lloret Town Council, as well as its experience in hosting sporting events, facilities and wide choice of quality hotels, all of which will help to achieve the event's forecast growth.
Jordi Pujol i Soley will be the honorary president of the event, with the Spanish handball coach Valero Rivera as president of the organizing committee. The Senior Sports Meeting is supported by public institutions, companies and the audiovisual communication industry, including the Sports Higher Council, the Catalonian regional government, TV3, La Caixa, and Coca-Cola, among others.
