From 9 January-5 February, Valencia’s City of Arts and Sciences hosted more than 3,800 car dealers and importers at an event geared to showcasing the French company’s latest model. TST Servicios was commissioned to handle the climate control of this unique venue.

From 9 January-5 February, Valencia’s City of Arts and Sciences hosted the world presentation of the new Peugeot 508, a top event that demanded a high level of commitment due to the presence of the brand’s leading distributors from all over the world.

TST Servicios was commissioned to handle the climate control – in this case, the heating – of the Hemisferic for 15 gala dinners. The company was also responsible for the electricity supply and distributing electrical power throughout the venue – as well as the Principe Felipe Science Museum – for heating, kitchen use, lighting and sound.

"After nearly 38 years in the climate control business, I’d say that the uniqueness of this job resided in the characteristics of the City of Arts and Sciences of Valencia. Above all, the Hemisferic Pavilion, because this venue’s beautiful structure presented us with a challenge. The perimeter of the Hemisferic, until a height of about 15m, is covered with panes of glass with a very low level of isolation. There is a 10cm gap between each pane and, therefore, the air can circulate quite freely," indicated Juan Jose Torres, CEO of TST Servicios.

"The next challenge involved in adequately heating the venue was its interior height, since hot air tends to rise, forming strata, and this has to be compensated by a heating system with a high calorific value."

"Piping the hot air into the venue also raised a series of problems, since this emblematic venue’s entrances are located at either end, 100m apart, and the corporate image of Peugeot was all important. This limited the possibility of using air ducts, and it must be remembered that in the climate control of venues of this size what is important isn’t the capacity, i.e., the quantity of hot or cold air, but its control so as avoid overheated and under-heated areas," explained Torres.

So as to meet all these challenges, TST Servicios assembled a complex system comprising four generators, totalling 530KVA, four switchboards of varying sizes and power, around 800m of cable of different diameters for distributing electricity, and diesel combustion boilers generating 1,400kW of calorific power. Due to the impossibility of installing main fuel deposits, daily refuelling was necessary at specific times of the day to avoid fuel transfers in the presence of visitors.

"It is in these details that TST offers solution with value added, with respect to its competition set. As regards this project, what we are probably most proud about is the fact that the end clients hardly noticed the heating equipment, thanks to their excellent adaptation to the aesthetics and setting created by Peugeot," said Torres.

TST Servicios started to assemble the equipment on Monday, 3 January, so as to carry out final testing on Saturday, 8 January, everything being fully operational on the following Sunday.

During each event, two of TST Servicios’ specialized technicians were on hand to resolve any electrical or heating problems. Given that the events were held during the day, the company’s 24-hour service was not necessary. Even so, some maintenance work had to be carried out practically at night.

TST Servicios coordinated this singular job from its offices in Valencia, which have been fully operational since May 2010 with the aim of attending clients’ needs in the shortest time possible, with all the services this entails.

"Our old and new clients are just as pleased with our new offices in Valencia as we are. We have a broad experience in large events with important media coverage on a national level. And so it has been a great pleasure for us to participate in this project at such an emblematic venue in Valencia. We’d like to mention the assistance offered to us on this job by the technicians and staff of the City of Arts and Sciences, and of course thank Peugeot for the trust it has placed in our company," commented Torres.

TST Servicios has been specializing in climate control, electrical power, industrial refrigeration, building drying, and tunnel and building work ventilation since 1975. The company also participates actively in the sectors of which it forms a part, belonging to the most relevant associations. Along these lines, it is a member of the board of the association ASEAMAC.

The company currently has offices in Catalonia, Madrid, Seville and Valencia. During the last 35 years, it has worked hard to provide a three-hour emergency service in the areas close to its offices, and under 10 in the rest of the Peninsula.

"Our commitment is our calling card. Our specialized staff and own transport differentiate us from our competitors and allow us to provide certain clients who demand a full service down to the smallest detail with value added," concluded Torres.
