On 8 July, Las Caballerizas de Montpensier, a new meetings and event venue located in the historic centre of the Cadiz town of Sanlucar de Barrameda, was officially opened. More than 150 guests attended the event aimed at showcasing the excellent facilities of this fully restored heritage building, which forms a part of the palace complex of the Dukes of Montpensier, work on which started in 1880.
Gudrun Selzer, the venue’s marketing director, thanked the public institutions for their collaboration and the professionals that have participated in this project.
A special mention was given to Beatriz Orleans-Borbon – who attended the opening in representation of the Orleans-Borbon family which has very close ties with the building – for her advice and for loaning the venue several important works of art.
Historically speaking, the Torrebreva Group has had very close ties with Sanlucar, ties that have been strengthened by this new project. The aim of the venue is to highlight the character of Sanlucar and part of its history.
The venue:
Located in the calle Baños, 1, in the very centre of town, Las Caballerizas de Montpensier has four function rooms, a wine cellar and two patios.
Two of the function rooms, the wine cellar and the two patios are located on the ground floor:
Príncipe Don Álvaro, a large function room measuring 200sqm, featuring the casks in which the Sanlucar wine was aged when it was used as a wine cellar, is an ideal place for any type of event, from business meetings to business lunches, in unique surroundings.
Next to this function room is the traditional Bodega Don Alonso, which has been equipped so as to allow visitors to see how the area’s dry sherry is aged.
The Bodega de las Infantas, the building’s most charming room, with a sacristy showcasing the winery’s best wines, is the perfect choice for cocktail parties, coffee breaks and exhibitions.
The Patios de los Carruajes and las Beatas are two outdoor venues suitable for cocktail and drinks parties, different kinds of shows, al fresco meals, and product presentations.
The other two function rooms are located on the first floor:
The Salón Orleáns, is the building’s main function room. With a classical décor, it is perfectly suited to spectacular events. Measuring nearly 600sqm – making it one of the largest function rooms in Sanlucar – it can be adapted to many different set-ups, such as those required for congresses, conferences, exhibitions or gala dinners.
At one end of this function room, there is a meeting room that can also be used for small seminars or for locating the hospitality desk.
As regards access, there are three staircases, one at either end of the function room and one in the middle, as well as a lift adapted to the needs of people with mobility problems.
While reforming the building, the needs of meeting and event professionals have been taken into account, with a number of practical solutions including changing rooms with showers, storage space, fully equipped kitchens, and rubbish collectors.
Las Caballerizas de Montpensier is a perfect complement to the province of Cadiz’s meetings and event industry, since it offers excellent facilities, with a capacity difficult to find in the rest of the area, housed in a heritage building located in the very centre of Sanlucar.
