The lunch-roundtable "Con dos Tacones", organized by the event agency Makyre, was held on 19 November.
Guests attending the third edition of this event included women working in the field of communication at Malaga Film Office, Malaga CF, Grupo Vera, Quiron Hospital, Aje Malaga, Chip Hospital, the Malaga Tradeshow and Congress Centre, and the Costa del Sol Tourist Board, as well as the directors or executives of companies related to the meetings and event industry, such as the Picasso Foundation, Amupema, Malaga City Council’s Women’s Area, the Regional Council’s Equal Opportunities Department, Central de Viajes, Nueva Moda, Event Planner Spain, Ciedes Foundation, etc.
Lynn Wong of Eventoplus, the event’s special guest, gave the first keynote, offering her vision of events as marketing tools, as well as addressing the role women play in the meetings and event industry.
The results of a recent study conducted by the Eventoplus Group indicate that the percentage of women working in the meetings and event industry is higher than average: while 41% of employees in the country as a whole are women, the figure is 64% in the meetings and event industry. This situation does not repeat itself in event service provider sectors (hotels, catering, audiovisuals, etc.), where 45% of employees are women. And as to the future, everything points to an increase in female employees. Suffice it to say the great majority of students in courses, or postgraduate or master programmes related to the industry are women.
“At Makyre, we have made a special effort to acknowledge this greater female presence,” says Macarena Regueira, manager director of Makyre. ‘Eventos con dos tacones’ is our slogan and, for this reason, we organize this event in which keynote speakers and attendees are all women from the world of corporate communication”.
