Around 100 employees of a health industry multinational participated in this activity organized by Exploramas, with the aim of recuperating an area destroyed by the terrible fire that raged on the Costa del Sol in 2012.
A total of 200 cork oaks and other autochthonous species were used to reforest the area of Entrerrios (Mijas).
Around 100 people, all employees of a healthcare multinational, participated in this sustainable activity organized by Exploramas, in collaboration with the environmental department of Mijas Town Council.
"This is just another example of the initiatives that we carry out on the Costa del Sol, forming a part of ’Compromiso,’ our CSR programme," explained Manuel Araujo, CEO of Exploramas, when describing the two-hour activity which also had an important element of team building.
The area earmarked for reforestation was one of those affected by the fire that destroyed nearly 20,000 acres in five municipalities of the Costa del Sol in September 2012. "Today, another step has been taken towards recuperating this natural space, the foothills of the Alpujata highlands, thanks to this initiative in which more than 100 employees of a multinational have participated."
In addition to reforesting the area, the initiative will also contribute to reducing the risks of flooding if and when the River Fuengirola breaks its banks.
Araujo also highlighted the win-to-win situation generated by these types of initiatives organized by his company. Since they help participants strengthen bonds as a group through teamwork and, at the same time, increase their motivation through contributing to recuperating a natural space destroyed by a catastrophe. "The personal satisfaction of those taking part is intense and also forges a link between them and the destination and the company providing the experience," said Araujo.
It is also important not to forget the return obtained by the company for which the participants work. "This activity has allowed the multinational in question to increase its employees’ motivation and engage them in its CSR policy."
These reforesting initiatives are experiences that Exploramas frequently organizes for other companies. Along these lines, the largest initiative to date took place in Los Enebrales (Punta Umbría, Huelva) in September 2011, with the active participation of over 1,000 employees of an electronics company.
