JupiterResearch’s “European Online Advertising Forecast, 2006-2011” market survey indicates an increase in search engine marketing spend in Europe, chiefly due to the fact that Europeans are buying more online products.

Eighty three thousand million euros by 2011

By 2011, European marketers will be spending up to 83 thousand million euros on online advertising, which represents 8.3% of overall expenditure. It is estimated that search engine marketing will account for nearly half of this figure (49%), an increase of 8% since 2005

Marketers are already spending more

Sixty-five percent of the marketers taking part in the survey acknowledged having increased their spending on online advertising in 2005 with the hope of obtaining their share of a market that, according to eMarketer will move around 75.5 thousand million euros.

Italy and Spain at the head

Forrester Research’s report on retail e-commerce sales in Europe for the period 2006-2011 signals out Italy and Spain as the two countries with the highest annual growth (31 and 27% respectively), way above the 12% estimated annual growth for the UK, a country has traditionally lead the European field in e-commerce.
