Ubeda Town Council’s department of tourism has organised a fam trip for a group of travel agents specialising in meetings and events, who visited the listed UNESCO Heritage Site from 2-4 June 2008 to get to know firsthand its monuments, venues and services.
This initiative was carried out in the framework of Ubeda’s Marketing Plan for promoting the town as a meetings and event destination, which the Town Council has been implementing since last year in collaboration with the Regional Government.
The plan’s chief aim is to promote the town’s cultural and heritage products, as well as those of general interest, with the aim of boosting the local tourist industry, and other more specific ones related to business tourism, such as the historic and artistic heritage of the town, the olive oil industry, theme events – Renaissance dinners and flamenco nights – and handicrafts, among other things.
In addition, the plan will focus on the town’s meetings and event venues, an important aspect, showcasing the Hospital de Santiago Congress Centre as the ideal venue for congresses, conventions and incentives in inland Renaissance Andalusia.
The Town Council has also put the accent on the town’s exclusive, top quality tourist services and products – another of the unique factors making Ubeda such an attractive destination for small- and medium-sized meetings and events – which have made a valuable contribution to the success of the fam trip.
A network of small, charming establishments in the centre of town, housed in palaces and manor houses, restaurants serving rich cuisine based on olive oil and the area’s traditional recipes, as well as companies offering a wide range of leisure activities have participated in this initiative.
During the trip, the travel agents visited the monuments of Ubeda and Baeza and the countryside of the province of Jaen, as well as a number of potteries and the Regulating Board of the Campiñas de Jaen Designation of Origin, as a general example of quality olive oil.
