The Spanish Society of Neurosurgery will be submitting its bid to host the 16th World Congress of Neurosurgery in Madrid in 2017 before the World Federation of Neurosurgical Societies (WFNS). The Spanish bid has the valued support of the Madrid Convention Bureau, as well as the written support of the Ministry of Health and Social Politics, the Ministry of Industry, Tourism and Commerce, and Madrid City Council.
The winning bid will be announced at the 14th Interim Meeting of WFNS, which is scheduled to be held in Porto de Galinhas (Brazil) from 14-17 September. Madrid will be competing against important cities such as London, Istanbul, Prague, Cartagena de Indias and Buenas Aires.
Founded in 1947, the Spanish Society of Neurosurgery currently has 610 members. Belonging to the European Association of Neurosurgical Societies (EANS) and WFNS, the society holds an annual congress attended by some 800 neurosurgeons.
