On 9 March, members of SpainDMCs held a meeting at the recently reopened Gran Melia Colon Hotel with the aim of creating a new chapter.
Among other matters, the association’s current lines of action and strategies were discussed, along with the problems facing Seville-based DMCs as regards both the local and regional authorities and service providers. One of the main concerns is the functioning of the Seville Convention Bureau, as there are doubts as to whether it has sufficient funding to carry out the tasks for which it was created and improve the promotion and marketing of such an important destination, which in the opinion of Seville DMCs should be the local tourist board’s chief aim.
Likewise, the DMCs want the local authorities to reach agreements with airlines to increase the number direct flights to the city and therefore attract a greater number of business tourists. They also stressed that there are not enough unique public venues available for hosting corporate events.
