On 16 April, the Spanish Association of Destination Management held its 9th General Assembly in Valencia. Items on the agenda included renewing appointments to the board of directors, approving the association' plan of action and budget for 2009, and addressing pressing matters, such as the promotion of Spain as a MICE destination.

The members of SpainDMCs attended the general assembly, chaired by Juan Antonio Casas, to approve last year’s accounts, design the association’s plan of action, renew appointments to the board of directors, agree on a plan of action, and approve the budget for 2009.

After welcoming new members DSevents, Eventisimo, GP Destination Management, Kuoni and Ultramar, appointments to the board of directors were renewed, with Juan Antonio Casas being re-elected as chairman, as well as executive director, and Anne Marie Eichler elected as vice-chairman. The secretary generals of the association’s local chapters were also appointed.

In addition, it was agreed upon to promote meetings with the directorate general of Turespaña and the different tourist offices of the autonomous communities, in order to offer them the collaboration of SpainDMCs in designing and implementing efficient promotional actions keyed to the MICE industry, and request further financial support for the campaigns carried out individually by DMCs to promote Spain’s different destinations.

Luis Diaz, executive director of SpainDMCs, outlined the 2009 plan of action, which envisages an important promotional campaign at several specialized MICE shows, as well as the signing of collaboration agreements with the different types of service providers used by DMCs.

So as to carry out these actions, the association’s budget for 2009 – 130% larger than last year’s – was approved. However, membership fees will not be increased, since higher expenditure will be covered by the fees paid by new members.
