A number of factors, including the recent rainfall in the province of Granada and the weather conditions this summer and at the beginning of autumn, indicate that Sierra Nevada is in for a good 2007-2008 ski season.
The recent rain in the province of Granada has been accompanied by the first snowfalls at the Sierra Nevada Ski Station. Although the snow is only several inches thick on the highest slopes, the layers of ice formed by night frosts mean that future snowfalls will have a better chance of settling.
The intention is to open to the public on 1 December, although Cetursa, the company managing the ski station, has announced that the possibility of opening earlier has not been ruled out, provided that there is sufficient snow to be able to open between 15-20 kilometres of runs.
In any case, the season will be officially inaugurated on 15 December, with a party and skicross demonstrations, since the station will hosting qualifying rounds of the World Cup.
