According to the Impactur Andalusia Study, presented in Malaga by Jose Maria Rossell, president of Exceltur (Aliance for Tourist Excellence) and the Hotel Playa Senator Chain, while tour operator bookings for the summer season are on the rise, the winter season is looking increasingly bleaker for the Andalusian tourist industry.
More hotels and less demand for long stays
This situation is due to greater competition and the drastic drop in the number of long stays. The fact that the majority of companies in the industry have raised their prices does help much, particularly when taking into account that over the last few years prices has tended to drop or at least remain stable.
Solutions
A way of solving the problem would be to diversify more, with special emphasis on the promotion of Andalusia as a destination for other types of tourism, such as incentive travel or fair, congress and event tourism, cultural and rural tourism, and city breaks, for which it would be necessary to optimise the use of the region’s secondary airports, such as Almeria, Granada, Jerez, and even Gibraltar.
