Up until November, 285 cruise ships with a total of 323,611 passengers called into Cadiz, both record-breaking figures.
With a month to go before the end of the year, Cadiz Port has broken its record as regards cruise ship calls and passengers.
Up until the end of November, the port has received 323,611 passengers from 285 calls, up 42.77% and 33.18%, respectively, compared with the same period last year.
For the first time in its history, the port has registered 285 calls and broken the 300,000 passenger mark. Until now, the largest of number of passengers (237,066) was registered in 2009, and the greatest number of calls (272) back in 2006.
2010 has also been a record-breaking year with regard to the number of passengers per ship, with an average of 1,135, compared with 1,072 registered during the same period last year.
Along these lines, the gross tonnage of cruise ships calling into the port until September (the last statistics available) had increased by 49.96%, with respect to 2009, thus confirming the increase in the size of ships.
Ten further calls are expected in December, meaning that the final figures will be in the region of 330,000 passengers from 295 cruise ship calls.
As is well known, the economic impact of cruise ship tourism is in the region of €60 per passenger in shops and services, while the Port Authorities receive around €7 per passenger per day.
