"Q" for Quality Certificates Awarded in Spain Total 2,329

Catalonia, Andalusia and Madrid are the autonomous communities with the greatest number of "Q" for Quality certificates, awarded by the Spanish Institute for Quality Tourism (ICTE), while Extremadura, the Rioja, Ceuta and Melilla bring up the rear.



According to figures supplied by the ICTE, Catalonia has the largest number of certificates with 305, followed by Andalusia (266), Madrid (256), the Basque Country (242) and the region of Valencia (220).



Those autonomous communities with between 100 and 200 quality certificates include Galicia, (158), Castile and Leon (117), Murcia (108), Asturias (105), and Aragón (100). While those with less than 100 include Castile-La Mancha (84), Canaries (83), Cantabria (78), Navarre (74), the Balearic Islands (65), the Rioja (37), Extremadura (28), Melilla (2) and Ceuta (1).



As regards the type of business, travel agencies have the largest number of quality certificates with 1,187, followed by hotels and tourist apartments (448), country accommodation (230), and restaurants (139).
