The Nasrid monument follows in the footsteps of other heritage buildings and sites on five continents.
Rotary International chose Granada-based Prodisa Comunication, one of the leading companies in the sector, and Granada’s famous Alhambra, as an emblematic European monument, to project the slogans of its "End Polio Now" campaign, which with this volunteer network pretends to finally eradicate the disease worldwide.
The initiative was presented on 28 March by Juan Ballester of Rotary Spain and the Andalusian head of culture, Paulino Plata, who stated that the Alhambra was a "magnificent choice" for the project.
Different slogans of the "End Polio Now" campaign, which was launched 25 years ago, were screened on the Torre de la Vela for four hours (from 8-12pm).
The screening of the slogans was carried out from the Apartamentos Turisticos Alhambra Hotel in the Albaycin – whose management kindly allowed Prodisa to use its facilities – using three powerful 1.8" Panasonic LCD video projectors, with a 1024x768 (4:3) native resolution, a brightness of 16,000 lumens and a 2500:1 contrast ratio. Each projector was equipped with four lamps, 6.3-9.0:1 zoom lenses, pure colour contrast for independently controlling yellow brightness so as to improve colour reproduction, and a geometric correction function for adjusting the signal.
The three projectors – two in normal and one in ceiling mode – were installed over 300m away from the Alhambra. The aforementioned geometric correction function was used to merge the three images into one (48,000 lumens). The projection area measured 27x36m; that is, over 1,000sqm.
A PC running Panasonic control software and a PJLink connection and protocol were used to control and monitor the projectors. Using another PC, the video signal was amplified and equalized before being transmitted to the three projectors.
Prodisa uses Alhambra for historic projection
The Nasrid monument was this included in a campaign that has already projected its slogans on other unique heritage buildings and sites on five continents, such as the pyramids of Egypt, the Coliseum in Rome, the Sydney Opera House and the Obelisk of Buenas Aires.
Thousands of people from Granada witnessed the singular event from different parts of the city, which was also covered by the national press.
Once again, Prodisa has successfully organized a ground-breaking event for a good cause, this time the eradication of polio.
