"Amaluna" will be the new show on tour during the summer of 2015 at PortAventura Resort.
PortAventura Resort and Cirque du Soleil have just signed a collaboration agreement in which the resort will serve as a summer base for the Canadian company’s world-famous tours. The agreement envisages that Cirque du Soleil’s marquee will host its shows on tour over the next five years, the first of which of being "Amaluna", which will be performed for the first time in Spain next year.
This collaboration began with "Kooza" in July and August 2014, allowing PortAventura Resort to become the first resort in Europe to host Cirque du Soleil’s shows. Over 100,000 people were thrilled by "Kooza", a success that convinced the two companies to enter into new negotiations so as to build on this with future tours. In the words of Fernando Aldecoa, operations and finance manager at PortAventura Resort: "This alliance constitutes the further step in our international strategy geared to promoting the resort as the best family destination in Europe, a model that can be found on Sentosa Island (Singapore) and in Orlando (USA)".
Charles Décarie, CCO of Cirque du Soleil, stated that "Cirque du Soleil is delighted to confirm the five-year agreement with PortAventura Resort, which consolidates our position in Spain and proves that both the local public and our Spanish fans are still central to the future of our company".
Over the last few years, PortAventura Resort has implemented an internationalization strategy and incorporated new projects year after year with a total investment of €125 million since 2010.
Amaluna
The show on tour that has been chosen for presentation during the 20th anniversary of Portaventura Resort is "Amaluna", which invites the audience to a mysterious island governed by gods and the cycles of the moon. Prospera officiates the coming-of-age ceremony of her daughter, in a rite of passage in tribute to womanhood, renovation, rebirth and balance that marks the passing on of these values from one generation to another.
The breaking of a storm provoked by Prospera herself forces a group of young men to land on the island, an arrival that results in an epic and thrilling love story between her daughter and a young suitor. But their love is put to the test. The young couple is forced to face difficult trials and overcome terrible setbacks before achieving mutual confidence, faith and harmony.
