On 11 September, TUI – the largest tour operator in the world – informed Hoteles Andaluces con Encanto (HACE) that the chain’s Playa de la Luz and Duque de Najera properties, managed by Juan Sañudo Marquez, had been ranked 28th and 73rd, respectively, out of 100 properties selected from over 7,500 hotels and apartments that the World of TUI currently markets worldwide.
The aim of the TUI-Umwelt Champion Awards is to acknowledge those associates hotels whose business philosophy is consistently geared to sustainable hotel management practices, thus involving them directly in environmental protection.
As award-winners, the Playa de la Luz and Duque de Najera Hotels will be highlighted in the company’s Spanish brochures for the 2010-11 summer season as TUI-Umwelt Champions. There is no better guarantee for people wanting to book their holidays, since TUI’s clients have classified them as eco-friendly hotels.
On occasion of the presentation of the hotels’ candidacies, this year an ecological kitchen garden has been created at the Playa de la Luz Hotel, supplying the hotel’s buffet restaurant – and next season that of the Hotel Playa de la Luz, as well – with the organic produce used in the elaboration of some the area’s typical dishes. The kitchen garden has been looked after by children staying at the property during the past summer season, watering plants and harvesting produce before taking it personally to the hotel’s kitchens.
