This year, the congress featured a course on animal welfare during sacrifice for disease control.
Organized by the Zooprofilattico Sperimentale dell’Abruzzo e del Molise G. For the last 30 years, the European Commission has been legislating in the field of animal welfare and supporting the development and enforcement of legislation via international initiatives. Animal care training is regarded as a key tool in the development of case studies and respecting European and international regulations.
The course was attended by 60 people from the following countries: Albania, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Croatia, Cyprus, Denmark, Estonia, Ex-Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Holland, Hungary, Italy, Iceland, Latvia, Malta, Namibia, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Turkey and United Kingdom.
The presentation revolved around interpreting and applying European legislation on animal welfare during sacrifice for disease control (Council Regulation EC No 1099/2009). During the course, stunning and sacrifice methods used for different species, as well as epidemic emergency prevention and management tools, were also addressed.
