Until 5 October, the Olympic Congress Centre will be hosting the annual convention of the Swedish company OKQ8, the main service station chain in Sweden with over 2,600 employees. Some 550 senior managers from Sweden and Denmark will be participating in the event.
The hosting of this international event is a good indication that Lloret del Mar has consolidated its position as a congress and event destination. The Lloret Convention Bureau’s strategy and action plan, and the promotional activities of the Catalonia Convention Bureau and the Costa Brava Gerona Convention Bureau, have also helped to win the bid for this congress. In the words of local tourism chief, Jordi Orobitg: "The congress will have an economic impact of over half a million euros only on Lloret del Mar’s local economy. In addition, many of the delegates will be staying on in the area after the event so as to visit the Dali Museum in Figueras, Barcelona, Gerona, or other towns on the Costa Brava; hence the congress will also have a positive impact on the rest of the area."
The Olympic Congress Centre is the event’s main venue, where the educational sessions and team activities will be held. Furthermore, 21 meeting rooms have been created for different presentations. During the final two days of the congress, there will be a number of workshops and exhibits.
In addition to the closeness of the facilities used for this congress, located throughout the town, the organizers are very satisfied with the hospitality of the locals and the professionalism of the town’s tourist industry. For this reason, they have already confirmed that they will be returning to Lloret del Mar in the near future.
