The 2nd LGTB Families European Meeting is scheduled to be held at the Olympic Congress Centre in Lloret de Mar (Costa Brava) from 28 April-1 May.
The aim of the 2nd LGTB Families European Meeting-Catalonia 2012 is to allow these families to share their day-to-day parental experiences, as well as the strengths and weaknesses of their countries’ laws as regards the protection of the children of lesbian, gay and transsexual families.
LGTB families are the driving force of social change. They contribute values to the definition of "family" in society, institutions and schools; values such as equality and respect for diversity. And, therefore, they feel that the existing legal vacuum and, what is more important, the explicit prohibition that exists as regards their parental rights existing in some European countries, is totally unacceptable.
Nowadays, in Europe, there are children with two fully legal mothers or fathers, but there are also kids whose parents’ rights are not recognized. There are a number of European countries in which the social acceptance of family diversity is very high; however, there is still a legal divide between 1st and 2nd class citizens.
LGTB families feel that they must denounce the state homophobia that still exists in Europe. And since homophobia remits with visibility, the organizers want to give a boost to their visibility by inviting everyone to become fully involved and, at the same time, enjoy themselves.
