A federal court has recently sentenced Adam Vitale of Brooklyn to 30 months in prison for sending spam to over 1.2 million AOL subscribers, as well as being ordered to pay AOL, the online division of Time Warner, $180,000 in damages.

The spam attack, which involved defeating AOL’s filter system by using several different computer servers to relay the e-mails while changing the header information to ensure that the junk e-mails could not be traced back to the sender, is not Adam Vitale’s first offence since he has 22 prior convictions.

Vitale’s accomplice, Todd Moeller, was sentenced to a 27-month prison term last November.
