The use of the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB) as a location for films, ads, series, etc. began in 1995 with the Catalan TV series El Joc de Viure, filmed in the Vila Universitària.
Over the last 24 years, the UAB has been chosen as the location for films such as:
- Faust 5.0, directed by La Fura dels Baus, which received 10 awards including Best Actor at the 2001 Goya Awards, Best Actor at the Sitges Film Festival, Best Actor at the Sant Jordi Awards, Best Film, Best Director, and Best Actor at the Miami Latin Film Festival, etc.
- Viatge Màgic a Àfrica, directed by Jordi Llompart, the first Spanish film shot entirely in real stereoscopic image 3D.
- 100 Metros, directed by Marcel Barrena, nominated for the Goya Awards in the Best Supporting Actor category and which received 11 nominations for the 2016 Gaudi Awards.
With a total of 28 ads, three series, and one TV movie, more than anything UAB Campus has been used as a TV location.
With series such as Sé Quién Eres, directed by Pau Freixa, using over six different locations on the campus, and the second season of Cites (Catalonia TV), the UAB has recently been omnipresent on television.
Actors and actresses such as Josep Maria Pou, Eduard Fernández, Martiño Rivas, Pepón Nieto, Blanca Portillo, Dani Rovira, Karra Elejalde, and Jorge Sanz, among others, have participated in the TV and film shoots on the campus.
On the basis of the experience obtained from 55 shoots, the UAB has created UAB Campus Set, which includes all the locations available to location finders and film and TV production companies.
