Painted on the pavement, this enormous multicoloured map contained 61 red chairs carried by 61 children with the aim of symbolizing with this gesture the 61 million children that are still denied their right to education.
On the occasion of the Human Rights Day, celebrated on 10 December, Entreculturas wanted to denounce – through a performance in Madrid’s Plaza de Las Ventas – the injustice suffered by 61 million children who are still being denied their right to education. In the framework of the "The Red Chair" campaign, Monkeyb Graffiti painted an enormous global map with 61 red chairs symbolizing those 61 million children that don’t go to school.
The pupils of Madrid’s Menesiano school and members of Entreculturas congregated in Madrid’s Plaza de las Ventas early in the morning to lend their support to the campaign.
Once over, the pavement was cleaned with water jets so as to give back the square its original appearance.

After the performance, Juan Carlos Gil, the campaign’s spokesman, read a letter/manifesto addressed to the Secretary of State for International Development Cooperation, Gonzalo Robles, to whom it was previously delivered with more than 10,500 signatures collected to date by The Red Chair Campaign, with the aim of requesting him to maintain his commitment to education by not reducing the AOD budget item earmarked for primary education in the 2013 General State Budget.
