More than 300 golf tour operators from 50 countries are expected to attend the International Golf Travel Market, which is due to be held in Marbella from 20-23 November 2006.

First time for Andalusia

The International Golf Travel Market, sponsored by the International Association of Golf Tour Operators (IAGTO), is the most important golf forum in the world. After many attempts to be elected, Andalusia has finally been chosen to host this prestigious event. Following in the footsteps of Maspalomas (Gran Canary), where last year’s edition was held, Marbella (province of Malaga) was elected in detriment to the candidacies of Las Vegas and Anatolia.

With anticipated attendance figures slightly higher than last year’s, more than 1,000 professionals representing the world’s most important golf tour operators are expected to attend this event, which the Regional Ministry of Tourism, Commerce and Sports has described as a marvellous opportunity for the commercialisation of Andalusian golf tourism.

A million euro budget

With a budget of approximately a million euros, the Andalusian Regional Government has organised a series of trips for foreign tour operators so as to familiarise them with the golfing opportunities on offer in the region’s eight provinces. Likewise, the government plans to carry our different activities to promote meeting and incentive tourism, as well as golf meetings and events, a sector characterised by the tourists’ spending power.

As Paulino Plato, the regional minister of tourism, commerce and sports, was quick to point out, the celebration of this event in Marbella constitutes a “magnificent promotional opportunity” for Andalusia.
