After hosting 116 congresses in 2006, Malaga is now the 6th most popular congress destination in Spain.
The expansion that the industry has undergone in Malaga has been highly notable, when bearing in mind that the organisation of congresses in the city was practically unheard of in 2003. Due to this boom, Malaga is one of Spanish congress destinations that has experienced the biggest growth in the last few years, helping the city to reduce the lead of Barcelona and Madrid, which, ranking 1st and 2nd, are still firm favourites.
Greater revenues
Last year, Malaga’s congress and meeting industry registered a turnover of 31 million euros, average daily spending reaching 373 euros, with an average stay of five days.
Client satisfaction was also high, with the surroundings, hospitality and choice of leisure activities scoring the highest marks.
La satisfacción de los viajeros de este segmento fue notable, con el entorno, la hospitalidad y la oferta de ocio como mayores reclamos.
National forecast for 2007
A 20% growth in the Spanish event industry is expected for 2007, with overall revenues in the range of 1,700 million euros.
