The congress, which will be held at the Malaga Tradeshow and Congress Centre, will allow professional meeting planners from all over Europe to get to know the city’s tourism offerings.
Vicente Serrano, president of OPC España, commented: "To have won the bid to host this important event is a great cause for satisfaction". The city of Malaga is scheduled to host the Annual Congress of the European Federation of the Associations of Professional Congress Organizers (EFAPCO) from 17-18 January 2014, with the attendance of over 200 professional congress organizers from all over Europe.
The congress, which will be held at the Malaga Tradeshow and Congress Centre, will allow professional meeting planners from all over Europe to get to know the city’s tourism offerings. In the words of Serrano, the city "is experiencing a fair degree of success in attracting this type of events, according to all the indicators." In 2012, the city hosted a total of 160 professional events and meetings, seven more than in 2011, with the attendance of 63,175 delegates (nearly 5% more than the year before), generating a economic impact of €75 million.

The congress’ programme, which is currently being defined, will include all the industry’s hot topics, with the accent on, as indicated by Serrano, "all those aspects allowing the industry’s stakeholders to achieve a better understanding of issues so as to continue to improve and optimize resources." New technologies, connectivity, and sustainability, among other issues, will form the core of the congress’ programme "which is one of the industry’s major events," explained Luisa Ahrens Teixeira, president of EFAPCO.
