The aim of the congress, scheduled to take place from 2-3 October 2014, in the frame of "Greencities & Sustainability" and "Tikal Forum", is to share, discuss and analyze international experiences and successful examples of the development and implementation of intelligent cities.
In this context, the experiences and knowledge obtained in the last two digital city meetings, held in Buenas Aires and Quito, was a very promising start to establishing a positive trend as regards the measures being applied by local governments to transform their cities into intelligent urban centres with services and solutions geared to facilitating the daily lives of citizens.
In the last few years, the city of Malaga has consolidated its position as an international centre of innovation and new technologies. This trend is part of a global strategy that has been implemented by the City Council so as to position the capital of the Costa del Sol on the international scene, with initiatives such as Malaga Valley – Europe’s most important technological hub – and public and private alliances like Smart City Malaga, Green e-motion and ZEM2ALL, all of which have contributed to making Malaga one of chief intelligent cities in Spain. On hosting this new event, Malaga aims to bridge the gap between European and Latin American smart cities.
During the event, jointly organized by Malaga City Council and the Latin American Association of Research Centres and Telecommunications Companies (AHCIET), awards will be given to the municipalities implementing the best digital initiatives in the following categories: Heritage and Tourism; ICT and Citizens’ Services; Citizens’ Participation; Open Government; Environmental Management; and Town Planning and Architecture.
Spanish and Latin American cities interested in participating in the event should submit their digital projects before 20 August. Should they be chosen, they will be given the opportunity to present their initiatives at the event to be held in Malaga from 2-3 October.
The meeting of digital cities forms part of Malaga’s "Green Week" and will be held parallel to "Greencities & Sustainability" and "Tikal Forum", which will take place at the same time and venue for the second year running.
