With 138 companies employing 1,500 people and attending to needs of approximately 600,000 clients per year, Lleida is currently Spain’s leading active tourism and adventure sports destination.
At present, Lleida is the Spanish province offering the greatest number of adventure sports, with more than 20 land, water and air activities. Of the 138 companies specialising in this type of tourism, 116 are based in the Pyrenees and pre-Pyrenees.
As to water sports, there is white water rafting, sledging and canoeing in the Rivers Noguera Ribagorçana, Noguera Pallaresa, Garona and Segre, as well as hydrospeeding and canyoning. Calm water activities include jet skiing, scuba diving, canoeing, sailing and water skiing, among others.
Mountain biking is becoming increasingly more popular and there are plenty of specialised companies in the province, which also organise activities such as horse trekking, hiking, bungy jumping, potholing, climbing and mountaineering, to name but a few.
As regards air activities, paragliding and hang-gliding have strengthened their position as Lleida’s star activities, although there are also companies specialising in rides in balloons, ultralight aircraft and gliders.
