The first qualifying round of the 4th edition of Lacoste Promesas – a unique golf tournament for children under 16 – will be held at La Cañada Golf Club (Guadiaro, Cadiz) from 27-28 August.

At the moment, 80 golfers have signed up for this first classifying round, some of whom are the best players in Andalusian and the rest of Spain, due to the fact that many youngsters holidaying in the provinces of Cadiz and Malaga have made the most of the opportunity to participate in Lacoste Promesas.

The maximum handicap allowed is 11.4 to ensure that only the best young players in Spain have a chance to win place in the final to be held in November in la Manga (Murcia), where they will have the privilege of practising with and learning from the likes of Jose Maria Olazabal, Miguel Angel Jimenez and Nacho Garrido

Twenty of the 80 participants belong to La Cañada’s golf school, which has produced several international champions, where more than 150 children are currently receiving tuition. La Cañanda has hosted qualifying rounds of Lacoste Promesas for the last three years.

Among the girls participating, those worth a special mention include local players Rosa Ana Rivas with a handicap of 4.1 and Marta Gago with one of 6.3; Begoña Jauregui from Añoreta Golf, with a handicap of 2, and Rocio Sanchez Lobato from Guadalmina, with one of 0.9. Begoña and Rocio have both been finalists at La Manga in past editions of Lacoste Promesas. Francisco Mateo Ocaña, with a handicap of 2.4, Felix Alberto Sanchez with one of 3.8, and Alberto Gutierrez Uceda with one of 4, all players from La Cañada, are undoubtedly firm favourites.

A 36-hole scratch tournament (lasting two days) will decide both this and the rest of the qualifying rounds, and the first four – two girls and two boys – will participate in the final at La Manga.

The winners of the Lacoste Promesas 2007 final will receive free clothing for a year from Lacoste and a trip for two to the destination of their choice, courtesy of Iberia. Play Station is also collaborating in this 4th edition.

Since there are places still available, the registration deadline has been extended for several days.
