ICCA Iberian Chapter implements meeting design at its annual meeting in Marbella

Around 80 MICE industry professionals from Spain and Portugal (convention bureaux, convention centres, hotels, PCOs and specialized agencies, etc.) participated in the ICCA Iberian Chapter’s Annual Meeting held in Marbella from 30 March-1 April, with the collaboration of the Costa del Sol Convention Bureau, among other institutions.

For the very first time, the so-called “meeting design” was applied to the meeting’s session format, thus allowing the participants themselves, divided into several work groups, to develop content, displaying their shared knowledge of the most contentious issues affecting the MICE industry. The sessions were held at the Adolfo Suarez Convention Centre in Marbella and in the gardens of the Gran Melia Don Pepe, the event’s official hotel, thereby making the most of the excellent weather.

As in previous years, at the beginning of the meeting there was a CSR activity (geared to reforestation) and several social activities; one of which was a tour-gymkhana of the charming alleys and squares of Marbella’s historical centre (yes, it does indeed exist!), before a cocktail party held at the old “hospital”, nowadays a cultural centre revolving around the building’s former function in the 15th century, a legacy of the Catholic Kings after the conquest of what was then a small fishing village.

The following night, a touch of glamour was leant to the event by a dinner organized at the Beach Club of the Puente Romano Hotel. The programme ended with the traditional workshop attended by ICCA service providers and organizers of major congresses, during which several of ICCA’s associated companies and those responsible for organizing congresses for important medical associations exchanged information with an eye to organizing future congresses.
