Ibiza Gran Hotel presents UNICEF with annual contribution to Check Out for Children initiative

The property thus becomes one of UNICEF’s main advocates in Ibiza’s tourism industry.



After the first season working with UNICEF Spain, the Ibiza Gran Hotel has already presented the organization with the funds raised. The hotel has participated for the first time in the Check Out for Children initiative, promoted by UNICEF, whose aim is to combat the sexual exploitation of children at tourist destinations, especially in the Dominican Republic.



This collaboration forms part of the social commitment that the property has assumed and intends to maintain. During the tourist season, the guests of the Ibiza Gran Hotel have participated voluntarily in the programme, with donations that the property adds to their final bill.



Raúl Sierra, director general of the Ibiza Gran Hotel, states that “both the hotel’s employees and guests have shown themselves to be very keen on doing their bit for this global cause.”



In addition, so as raise the awareness of both guests and employees, Ibiza Gran Hotel has undertaken the commitment to distribute printed information about the campaign against the exploitation of children at tourist destinations.



Under the slogan "Today you can change the world while you sleep," the Spanish UNICEF Committee intends to raise public awareness about the problems affecting millions of children and the need to take measures to effectively protect them, while raising funds earmarked for its children’s protection programme.



Having already directly benefitted 145,000 children and teenagers, the aim of the project is to reduce commercial sexual exploitation in the northern region of Dominican Republic (Las Terrenas, Sosúa, Cabarete y Puerto Plata), through the forging of a wide-ranging alliance between the private and public sectors, civil society and academic institutions.
