Iberian Chapter of Green Meeting Industry Council to Be Launched Soon

A group of Spanish and Portuguese meetings and event professionals are currently preparing to launch the Iberian Chapter of the Green Meeting Industry Council (GMIC), the first and foremost international community dedicated to environmentally friendly meetings and events (www.greenmeetings.info).



Aware of the fact that an increasingly large number of consumers and companies feel the need to take greater responsibility for the social and environmental impact of their actions, and that eco-motivation is increasingly more present in meetings and event organization so as to advance towards a fully sustainable industry, the promoters of this project have invited all those professionals interested in the issue to attend a meeting scheduled to be held at IFEMA on 18 January at 5pm in the auditorium of the Portuguese stand (Pavilion 8, Stand 8C02), during with FITUR.



The setting up of an Iberian Chapter of GMCI is supported by industry professionals including

Guy Bigwood (sustainability director of MCI Group and president of GMIC), Pedro Rocha (manager of Estoril Congress Centre), Belen Perez-Gascon (director of the Costa del Sol Convention Bureau), Ank van Helvoirt (director of the incentive agency Barcelona - Green Incentives), Maria Canivell (director of the event agency Lamar de Eventos) and Alfonso Montecelos (director of Spain Travel & Business Magazine), among others.



The Green Meeting Industry Council (GMIC) is a non-profit association with chapters in 20 countries, keyed to achieving a sustainable meetings and event industry not only by means of training and research programmes, but also through political lobbying and legal reform.
