Last Sunday, the gardens of the emblematic Marbella hotel Gran Melia Don Pepe hosted the second edition of Live Cooking, an event forming a part of the prestigious Andalusian food festival Food&Sun.

Dani Garcia, Jose Andres y Andrea Tumbarello, three of Spain’s most well known chefs, supervised over 200 guests – including several celebrities such as the ex-tennis player Manolo Santana, the actor Pablo Carbonell, and the singer from Malaga Diana Navarro – while they prepared their own dinner on the hotel’s terrace.

Dani Garcia, head chef of the Gran Melia Don Pepe Hotel’s Calima (one Michelin star), supervised the preparation of the first course: peach gazpacho with tofu vine. The attendees then put their culinary skills to the test with the main course, following the instructions of Jose Andres: sea bass steak La Palma in mollusc broth with peas. Lastly, the magic of Andrea Tumbarello, who oversaw the dessert: sweet Marbella pizza, with strawberries, white chocolate, and peppermint.

The festival ended last Tuesday with the golf tournament Wine&Green, combining sports, wine tasting and a cocktail prepared by the three Marbella restaurants with a Michelin star: Calima, El Lago and Skina. The climax of the event was the second edition of sardines on the spit, in acknowledgement of those who have helped to preserve this tradition, which is one of the dishes that best represents the Costa del Sol’s popular cuisine.
