According to Dresdner Bank’s annual report on the tourist industry, Germans spent approximately 60.5 thousand million euros on business and leisure trips in 2006, accounting for 11% of worldwide expenditure on foreign travel, thus retaining their position as world leaders in foreign travel expenditure.
Recovering economy
The recovery registered by the German economy in 2006 has been responsible for the fact that spending on foreign travel rose 3.5% last year, the biggest increase since 2000.
Spain and Austria still firm favourites
Spain and Austria remain firm favourites with German travellers, while places like Egypt and Tunisia have lost some of their appeal because of fears about safety.
