VerAfied status raises the security bar for the event technology industry.
GenieConnect, the smarter event technology provider, announced an industry first at the beginning of the month: it has earned the VerAfied security mark from Veracode for its native mobile apps. This newly achieved status demonstrates GenieConnect’s ongoing commitment to safeguarding the sensitive data entrusted to it by its clients and gives them a competitive advantage over companies offering similar solutions.
GenieConnect CEO Giles Welch stated: "Many in the events industry are alarmed at the frequency with which mobile apps from technology vendors are suffering security breaches. By their very nature, native apps store potentially sensitive data on the handset and these are relatively easy to hack into if they are not encrypted and stored correctly. By enlisting the services of Veracode, the world’s most powerful application security platform, we can reassure clients that that our software complies with the highest security standards. I’m proud to say that we are the first event technology provider to achieve this status and that our clients can rely on GenieConnect to be a trusted custodian of their sensitive information."
The VerAfied status offered by Veracode demonstrates that GenieConnect is actively identifying and remediating application vulnerabilities to provide its clients with one of the highest levels of software assurance and security verification. This is a clear indicator to GenieConnect’s worldwide clients that the company’s security has met or exceeded industry standards for security, reliability and compliance.
Welch continued: "Event technology is no longer a fledgling industry and, as it matures, it must be held accountable to an increasingly rigorous set of standards. Event apps are now very sophisticated, holding tens of thousands of personal records and serving as a conduit for information that is often mission-critical to the event host’s brand. I believe security verification is the very least event organizers should expect from their technology provider and that this will rapidly become the new norm in our industry."
VerAfied assessment is based on industry standards including MITRE’s Common Weakness Enumeration (CWE) for classification of software weaknesses, FIRST’s Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) for severity and ease of exploitability and NIST’s definitions of assurance levels. According to Gartner, "CVSS provides an industry recognised vulnerability risk ranking that is both repeatable and refereanceable and is commonly used by large and small organizations alike when disclosing vulnerabilities."
"We are finding that CIOs and CSOs are asking their purchasing teams to take security into consideration when procuring new applications. For this reason it is important that software vendors find a way to demonstrate that their software is built using secure development practices," said Chris Wysopal, co-founder and CTO, Veracode. "The VerAfied mark tells the world that GenieConnect is testing for application vulnerabilities and complying with industry standards, but more importantly, it lets their clients know GenieConnect is a vendor they can trust to keep their data secure."
GenieConnect was established in 2010 and has since provided digital solutions for over 1,500 events across the world.
