The Norwegians are spending increasingly more on their holidays. The statistics obtained by the Norwegian Central Statistics Office show that average spending on holidays has risen sharply over the past few years: if in 2002, average spending per family unit was in the range of 26,000 Norwegian crowns (€3,250), in 2006 spending reached the 38,000 Norwegian crown mark, equivalent to around €4,500.

Short trips have registered the highest growth; since 2002, the number of weekend breaks and getaways has almost doubled. Five years ago, each family spent on average 2,000 Norwegian crowns (€250) on this type of holiday; while in 2006 average spending reached 4,500 Norwegian crowns (€565).

In 2006, the Norwegians spent a total of 76 billion Norwegian crowns on trips, 50 billion of which were spent abroad.
