With over 2,000 participants, the event will have an estimated economic impact of €3,000,000.
Feria Valencia has been chosen as the venue for the International Geosciences and Remote Sensing Symposium (IGARSS), the most important of its kind. With over 2,000 engineers converging on the city of Valencia, it is estimated that the event will have an economic impact of over 3,000,000€.
The decision was taken in Quebec, where Valencia’s bid, presented by Valencia University, Feria Valencia and the city’s tourist office, prevailed over that of Abu Dhabi, the other finalist. This was thanks mainly to the scientific programme presented by the physicist Jose Moreno Mendez. According to Valencia University, both the Image Processing Laboratory (LPI), belonging to the institution’s science park, and the Department of Geophysics and Thermodynamics (Faculty of Physics), will be responsible for staging the symposium, under the leadership of Professor Moreno.
The International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium is backed by the Geoscience and Remote Sensing Society (IEEE GRSS) and the world’s leading space agencies – the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), the European Space Agency (ESA) and the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) – in addition to private sector aerospace companies.
This annual congress, the most important event addressing satellite control and observation from the Earth, is always held in a different city. In 2015, it will be the turn of Millan (Italy), followed by Beijing (China) in 2016, and Fort Worth (USA) in 2017.
The event, which is scheduled to take place at the Hall 5 of Feria Valencia’s Event Centre from 23-27 July 2018, will also occupy a conference hall seating 1,000 people, 10-12 meeting rooms seating 100-200 people for parallel sessions, and 2,000sqm of exhibition space.
