Es.Cultura strives to bring culture to all parts of Spain. Last weekend, it was the turn of Seville, where "Carmen" by Georges Bizet was performed in the city’s streets. The opera’s chief characters, such as Carmen, Don Jose, Escamillo, and the cigarette girls, among others, performed a number of the opera’s arias, while interacting with the passersby.
The event took place in different parts of the city of Seville, specifically the real locations featured in the opera: several places in the Triana neighbourhood, where Carmen lived; La Maestranza Bullring, since the bullfighter Escamillo plays an important role in the opera; the Senate House of Seville University, housed in the city’s old cigarette factory…
A resounding success with the general public, this performance is yet another example of how culture can be accessible and fun for all, at any moment and in any place.
