On the occasion of the United Nations World Tourism Day, celebrated yearly on 27 September, a large number of events were held in the city of Seville with the aim of underlining the importance that tourism has as the engine of the local economy and showcasing the city as a chief national and international destination.
This year, the main theme was Seville's presence in some of the most important operas, under the slogan "Seville, opera city", geared to converting the city into one of Europe's leading city destinations.
Es.cultura took Seville on a trip back in time to the 16th and 17th centuries, with famous opera characters, such as Don Giovanni, Carmen and Figaro, who could be seen on the morning of the 17th strolling through the city in period costumes. These characters performed fragments of the operas of which they are the undisputed protagonists, before the passersby and visitors to the city, transmitting the essence of these masterpieces of the world of opera.

In addition to these activities, during the week there were street performances, cocktail and typical food tasting, competitions and concerts in other localities of the province of Seville, including Carmona and Alcala de Guadaira. Furthermore, a number of towns located in Seville's Sierra Norte y Sur also organized performances and activities to commemorate the World Tourism Day.
