With the aim of promoting sustainable transport in Barcelona, the charging station for electric scooters, located facing the IESE Business School (in the city’s Les Corts district) is now fully functioning.
Backed by the company Cooltra Motos, the IESE Business School, Barcelona City Council, Iberdrola and Mobecpoint, this initiative is an example of public/private sector collaboration geared to promoting the use of electric vehicles in Barcelona and how it is possible to achieve this when all the stakeholders are capable of providing full mobility solutions tailored to the needs of users.
The company Mobecpoint has been responsible for providing and installing the charging station for electric scooters, within the framework of the Movele programme promoted by IDEA. The station is owned by Iberdrola, the company handling the electrical installation and which has been supplying free electricity for the past two years. The IESE’s charging station has nine charge points supplying sustainable energy 24/7. Furthermore, the station features charge point booking technology. The location of the new station is exceptional, since it affords IESE students a flexible, independent way of getting about town and attending lectures at the business school.
eCooltra offers students special rates. The company currently has more than 60 Govecs Go! S 3.4 electric scooters for rent only at IESE, making it one of the most important initiatives of its kind in Europe.
In Barcelona, the company is committed to promoting the use of electric scooters, actively seeking collaboration between the public and private sectors. In this case, the partnership between Barcelona City Council and vehicle rental companies and makers of charging equipment has made it possible to develop services providing a full solution adapted to the different mobility needs of the students of a business school. With this initiative, the charging stations created by private initiatives, such as that of Ecooltra, IESE and Mobecpoint with nine charge points, complement the city’s network of charging stations, which currently comprises over 260 points, constituting a model applicable to other educational and work centres in the city.
