The international video game festival has demonstrated how attractive the Spanish gaming market is for investors.
After three days of intensive around-the-clock gaming, the last edition of DreamHack Valencia closed at Feria Valencia on 21 July, with record-breaking attendance figures. This international video game festival converted Valencia into the world focus of electronic gaming with its Starcraft II, Call of Duty: Black Ops II, Super Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition, Counter Strike Global Offensive, and Dota 2 tournaments.
Sponsored by Razer, global leader in gaming hardware and systems, the event nearly tripled year-on-year attendance figures, with over 20,000 participants. These included approximately 500 professional players who competed for over 40,000€ in prize money.
The tournaments – which were broadcasted in seven languages (Italian, Russian, Swedish, Spanish, English, French. and Polish) to millions of spectators all over the world – featured top national and international eSports players, above all from Korea, France, Sweden and North America.
A LAN party with over 1,000 participants was the star activity at Feria Valencia, complemented by the presentations of the video game industries leading brands, showcasing their last products and organizing tournaments and activities for the general public in the exhibition area. These featured developers such as Ubisoft and Nintendo, top manufacturers including Asus, Razer and Logitech, and video game schools like ESAT and Florida Universitaria, as well as companies including FNACm Avermedia and Hauppauge, all demonstrating their support for an industry experiencing exponential growth.
