The only 5-star property in Marina Alta area of the province of Alicante, the Denia Marriott La Sella has hosted hundreds of world-class events, all of which have been a resounding success.
A yardstick in the golf world and the region of Valencia, this May the Denia Marriott La Sella is celebrating its 10th anniversary since opening in 2003; the only 5-star hotel in the Marina Alta area that has hosted important events right from the start.
A decade has passed since Bill Marriott, chairman of Marriott International and the hotel’s franchisor, accompanied by the complex’s developer, cut the ribbon to symbolize the "launching" of the flagship of quality tourism on the Costa Blanca.
Seconds later, the winner of the Ryder Cup Jose Maria Olazabal teed off with his driver from the hotel’s terrace towards the golf course, which he himself designed 23 years ago. The actor turned politician Toni Canto acted as master of ceremonies at a large party attended by leading figures from the world of finance, culture, politics and sports.
Over the years, La Sella Golf Resort has hosted a large number of events, all of which have been a resounding success. The property’s function rooms, with a seating capacity of over 1,000 people, have served as venues for local festivals, such as the "fallas", cooking competitions, and the meetings of multinationals such as Siemens, Phillips, KPMG, and Nike, as well as all types of private celebrations. All in all, the property has hosted over 900 events to the clients’ complete satisfaction.
Furthermore, the hotel’s events facilities have hosted all types of shows, from classical music concerts to boxing matches. Perhaps one of most important moments was marked by the two concerts given by Simple Minds in 2012, both of which were completely sold out.
Nevertheless, if there is something that has set this hotel complex apart from its competitors not only in Spain but also in the rest of Europe, then that has to be its capacity for organizing golf events. Some of Spain’s top companies – including Lacoste, Ford, Honda, Audi, BMW, El Corte Ingles, etc. – have chosen La Sella Golf Resort to host the finals of their corporate tournaments.
The golf complex has managed to consolidate its position as one of the most important courses on the professional tour calendar, hosting the Lady’s European Tour fixtures – with the presence of the best women golfers in the world – the new Senior and Women’s Professional Spanish Championship, and the Peugeot Open.
In addition to golf, the Denia Marriott has also been chosen by pro football, athletics and cycling teams for their pre-season training camps. For the past three years, the hotel has hosted the Swiss cycling team BMC’s winter camp, captained by Tour de France winner Cadel Evans.
