Proof of the company's social and professional commitment with the world of sports, the De Boer Triathlon Team – comprising a group of 16 men and women ready to rise to the challenge and triumph – was created in 2009. The De Boer Triathlon Team includes both sports professionals, such as Ibon Zugasti, Jaume Leiva, and Daniel Serra, and staff members, like Alberto Capon, Marsel Meeuwsen, Pascal Jorritsma, and Jane Busfield.
The passion, sacrifice and team spirit that this sport demands are values with which De Boer’s staff closely identify themselves, and they want to prove their commitment by participating for the first time in the Barcelona Triathlon, due to be held on 18 October, with three teams in the Olympic modality of relays (De Boer Elite, De Boer White and De Boer Blue), and seven competitors in the individual race (also an Olympic sport). The triathlon comprises a 1.5km swimming course along the coast of Barcelona, 40km by bike, and a final 10km run through the most emblematic neighbourhoods of Barcelona.
The adaption of the extreme Iron Man en the 1980s to create an Olympic version of the triathlon has meant that the sport’s following has grown enormously, with a large number of people participating in over 1,000 competitions worldwide. Earlier this year, IMG, the company organizing the Barcelona Triathlon, launched the Euro Cities Triathlon Series – a circuit that will expand in the coming years – with Barcelona, London and Stockholm as the pioneering venues.
